New DTV processor and software solution delivers a unified TV and media services platform for TV manufacturers.

The solution is based on Micronas’ Pegasus IDTV platform running a software suite from Oregan Networks that includes a web browser to access TV channels and Internet content such as YouTube™, NetFlix® and Flickr®. A media client is included to display in-home content such as home videos, music and digital pictures in HD, via a DLNA network. 'Widgets' are also provided that pop up information such as sports news, stocks and weather reports.

According to a Gartner Group study released in September 2008, worldwide subscriptions to Internet-capable televisions are on track to reach 19.6 million subscribers in 2008, a 64 percent increase on the previous year. DTV manufacturers are increasingly developing products for this growing market segment, and the Micronas/Oregan Networks solution offers a key technology platform to build on.

"Micronas is a leading supplier of digital TV technology, internationally recognised for the audiovisual quality of its chipset solutions", said Milya Timergaleyeva, VP of Market Strategy at Oregan Networks. "Combining Micronas’ broadcast TV expertise with Oregan’s Internet Protocol applications meets the requirement within the industry for expedited time-to-market with fully integrated, yet customisable solutions for DTV manufacturers."

“The network connection will be an essential element of television,” says Kai Scheffer, Director Marketing at Micronas. “We are extremely impressed with Oregan's suite of connected software - they truly enable mainstream, affordable devices that can share content and 'just work' together.”

With this home-network connected and Internet-ready platform, Micronas and Oregan Networks are now able to provide manufacturers with a fast-track solution for advanced DTV products that provide consumers with a seamless interface to a variety of media formats and sources.

Pricing depends on the combination of chip set and software modules selected.
